Reading Apprenticeship
Reading Apprenticeship is not an add-on to what you're doing. It's a transformation of yourself and how you're doing what you're doing. You have to change yourself first and then your students will be changed.

I want to use the gallery walk for an end of semester review. Each group will be assigned a section of the textbook and choose 3 key concepts of their section then the students will go around to each commenting and extending the information on the gallery walk.

I want to provide the tools for my students to use as they learn and model how to use them. Like an automotive class, I have to let students have access to and practice using the tools whether they are proficient at using them or not. Then I want to ask them what are the benefits of these tools? How will you use this tool again for some other purpose?

These are routines, so sometimes if something like the gallery walk doesn't go well the first time, I say, "Oh, I'm disappointed this time, next time will be better..." And the students realize that these are normal routines.
