Inquiry into Reading Apprenticeship in the STEM Classroom

As you move forward with all that you have learned about Reading Apprenticeship, you will likely reach roadblocks, questions, barriers, and even confusion! Just like our students do in our classes!

Here are your STEM Network facilitators smiling at you because we know this is an inquiry and we are rooting for you as you enter the next phase of your inquiry with Reading Apprenticeship!

This website has captured a snapshot for you to help you to continue your inquiry and get ideas.  When you're looking for inspiration or encouragement, get out your copy of Reading for Understanding, your binder, and open up the website and look for ideas!

This When you have an idea, post it to one of the live pages on the site to share with others!   You can even post video of yourself demonstrating something you've done!

Advance Readings:

"Creating Safety" really resonated with me.

I read this article by Freeman, but wow! How do I do this in my classroom?

It took me 15 years to learn to read at the graduate level.  And then when I went to a one day RA workshop it was like a recap of all that I had done for those 15 years and I cried.  I want to help my students have that kind of breakthrough.

You cannot apply what you don't know and you can't cover all the content, but if through Reading Apprenticeship you get them to be motivated to pursue what they need, they can become lifelong learners.

The lecturing educator needs to think outside of the box.

Do we ask or do we tell?

On the bottom of page 2 of Freeman, "if we're doing a traditional lecture, we're doing students a disservice."
