MeTA

At Pasadena City College (PCC), Arkova Scott developed the MeTA program to support ePortfolios on the PCC campus.

Goals:

How could ePortfolios become a very clear path to student leadership?

How could an opportunity for leadership impact students who are being tutored or becoming leaders?

How is ePortfolio development different from students preparing for other types of tests and exams?

What is MeTA?

(My ePortfolio Transfer & Assessment)

The MeTA program is designed to train 2nd year Learning Leaders to facilitate large group workshops and individualized sessions for students on varied ePortfolio topics and technology platforms.  It is a hybrid training that requires face-to-face meetings and online assignment submissions.   MeTA addresses the following High-Impact Educational Practices:

High-Impact Practices

Common Intellectual Experiences-the MeTA Leaning Leaders will have had the experience of creating an ePortfolio for one or more courses prior to designing and facilitating a workshop.  It is the leader’s responsibility to share their personal experience with the students and help them understand the fundamental principles of creating an ePortfolio.

Learning Communities- the Learning Leaders and student attendees of these MeTA workshops will collaborate together to discuss course material and signature assignments, identify and develop artifacts, reflect and relate the course content to their own personal experiences.

How does MeTA Work?

MeTA has a clear personnel structure that supports students who are receiving support, but also mentors students who are working through MeTA.

Capstone Projects: Students involved with the creation of their ePortfolio’s nearing the end of their first or second year college experience, have a digital platform in which to uniquely articulate and showcase what they’ve learned. They can take this with them upon transfer.

What training is involved?

Utilizing Reading Apprenticeship techniques and other metacognitive training, MeTA trains students to be leaders guiding and mentoring other students as they develop their ePortfolios.
